Médoc - Route des Châteaux

Your destination is the famous Médoc area in the north of Bordeaux. It is 80 km long and 15 km wide, limited in the west by the Atlantic Ocean and in the north and east by the river Gironde. Its microclimate and soil is very special and therefore the home of the best red wines of France. Médoc consists of 8 controlled original areas: Médoc, Haut Médoc, Saint Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint Julien, Listrac, Moulis and Margaux.

You will stay in a hotel in the city of Bordeaux.

Day 1

Fountain of the 3 Graces

You travel individually to Bordeaux.

You will visit the historical city center of Bordeaux. Actually, the historical part of Bordeaux is the largest conserved city center in France. Bordeaux, former Burdigala, has been a booming city since 56 B.C. In the 12th century, the city grew rich due to wine-trading with England. You will walk through the park or nuzzle in the wine-shops for treasures.

In the evening you will enjoy an oenological menu. You may learn something about the specification of wines: bouquet, nose, opening of the aroma, tannins, tannic acid, vine types and many more (facultative).

Cos d'Estournel
Pichon Longueville, Baron

Today you will start a round trip through the Médoc: You will stop at the most famous vineyards Châteaux Mouton Rothschild, Margaux and Latour and also at Cos d’Estournel. This giant oriental wine cellar looks like a pagoda.

Towards noon you will enjoy a typical lunch including wines of the Médoc. In the evening you will visit Château Pichon-Longueville and after a wine-tasting you will return to Bordeaux.

Day 3

Wine tasting at the Château

In the morning you will travel to a Château (Cru Bourgeois). After a sightseeing- tour and wine-tasting, you will receive your „Maître Embouteilleur“, i.e. a diploma proofing that you filled, corked up and labeled your “own” bottle of wine. You may of course take the bottle and the diploma along with you.

You will taste different wines during the vesper presented by an oenologist. After the menu you may walk through the vineyards. Before you will return to Bordeaux you will visit the “Noisetterie du Médoc” where the real praline is still produced in the same way as it was for the Earl of Praline.
