Tracing the late harvest

In no other german wine you will find more historical wine culture, more over you find culinary specialities and excellent wines.

For centruries, the Rheingau is the epitome for German Riesling. The Rheingauer wine makers were always pioneers for wine quality.

In 1775 the late harvest was discovered by chance. It is important for the production of the sweat wines of selected grapes. 


Day 1 (Vollrads Castle)

Trough centuries the Rheingau fascinated secular and clerical Ruler, who rised the viniculture to a high skill.

You arrive individually and meet the other participants in the hotels lobby for a glass of Riesling-Champagne at 15:30 pm.

After a short introduction in the winecultural backgrounds of the Rheingau, you set out to Oestrich-Winkel to Schloss Vollrads.  After a large round tour, an exclusive 5-course menu with wines from Vollrands castle is served in the oldest part of the maincastle, the leatherroom. In the past the most importand guests of the count were received here. The room is named by the precious leather Gobelins at the walls.

Returning to the hotel later at the evening (B&B).


Day 2 (The Name of the Grapevine)



Eberbach Monastery
Vineyard Robert Weil

The impressed roman ruins of Eberbach Monastery were used as scenery for the movie „The Name of the Rose“. You are initated to a signifcant cultural and wine historical scenery of the monastery, wich is part of the worlds cultural heritage. After a short walking-tour you reach the favorite vineyard of the monks, the world-famous "Steinberg" ("Stonehill"), for a small picnic.

Since years the traditional wine-growing estate Robert Weil in Kiedrich is leading edge of the Wineyards of the Rheingau and is one of germany's best. You enjoy a guided tour through one of the newest private cellar manufactures, the neat arranged Vinothek and a commented wine tasting at the lovely renovated manor house of the Weil family.

In the evening you will visit an exclusive Restaurant. Here you will enjoy a  4-course-menu for Gourmets with corresponding wines from Robert Weil.

Day 3 (Island & steep cliffs)


Ehrenfels Castle at the Rhine, Rüdesheim

 

Today you travel by boat from Castle Reinhartshausen to the Island Mariannenaue. Here you explore with a competently guide the fascinating wildlife reserve. After that, you will taste some wines, which are grown on this island, and have a small snack.
You will follow Johannes Eser from the vineyard Johannishof through the famous Johannisberger area.
Later in Rüdesheim, you will be met by Johannes Leitz. The most sensational Rheingauer Riesling grows on the rocks far above the Rhine. The shooting star vineyard Leitz with its wonderful Riesling is the best example for the potential of the Rüdesheimer position. At the end of the day, you will enjoy an exclusive menu with corresponding wines at the vineyard Leitz.

After breakfast you may travel back or enjoy 1 or 2 more days in the area.
